Effective at noon on June 7, 2017, Category 2 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction, except in Haida Gwaii and the "Fog Zone", to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

This prohibition will remain in effect until Oct. 20, 2017 or until the public is otherwise notified. A map of the affected area is available online at: http://ow.ly/zmy830cl1sg

This prohibition covers all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands within the Coastal Fire Centre, but does not apply within the boundaries of a local government that has forest fire prevention bylaws in place and is serviced by a fire department. Please check with local government authorities for any other restrictions before lighting any fire.

In early May the Gold River Archives were approached about running our William Macfarlane program for a group visiting from Campbell River.  We ended up having enough people for two presentations, which was great!

Feedback was extremely good so we decided to put it out to the community to see if there is enough interest to run a few more over the summer.  This is a great little glimpse into an event that happened in the area well before the community of Gold River ever existed.

Gold River's Junior Canadian Ranger (JCR) Hayden Beer and his team won 2nd place in the team competition at the National Marksmanship Competition in Goose Bay Labrador. Congratulation to everyone who participated!

This good news just came from the Campbell River ATV Club.

The RIDE FOR GOLD TO GOLD RIVER IS A GO. 
 I spent the day going to Gold River and discussing getting access to food fuel and accommodation with RCMP and Councillor. Some good news --- We are now allowed very restricted - probationary - ride-in access to fuel, food and accommodation in Gold River and Tahsis. WITHOUT AN OPERATION PERMIT. The access is very restricted for now but I felt that not having to get an operation permit was a good trade off. We can only access the Ridgeview Inn for the time being. Contact info for reservations is below. In Gold River we are allowed to access the Inn and gas station across the highway on a specific route in a specific manner from Scout Lake Rd. We are not to go straight across the intersection. When you are at the stop sign looking across the GR Hwy toward the gas station. You will see a yield sign and a street light. There is a dip in the curb between the signs. Go straight across the Hwy and over the curb at that dip. Follow the edge of the grass for about 10 meters you will see a small trail going to the right. Please be careful not to spin your tires on the edge of the grass. Use the small trail to gain access to the gas station. We are not allowed to ride to the station on the road south of the Hwy. We are not allowed to ride anywhere past the Gas station. Keep in mind that we are on probation - right across from the RCMP station and that 2 of the RCMP officers live on Scout Lake rd. You must wear a helmet. You must wear your seatbelt if so equipped. Max speed is 30km. You must have a valid drivers license. You must have highway crossing sticker on your visable plate. You must also have your approved liability insurance to ride on crownland. Please respect our Club Reputation and the privedges that we have worked so hard to achieve by riding respectfully. This is a huge step that will have an effect on every ORV rider in every part of our Province. Lets make this work and be part of the future of ORV riding for generations to come. A big thank you to everyone who enjoyed our International Nights, it was a wonderful success. During the busy spring and summer months we won't be having International Night but we will resume in the fall.

There will be no Classic Rock Bingo June 2nd. We have two very large groups who are coming in for a special function.
