A Message From Philip Parkes, Vice-Principal of the International Program

May 18, 2017

Dear GRSS families,

We have an exciting opportunity for an international student exchange with France. As you may or may not know, six GRSS students were part of a team that travelled to France over March break with the goal of laying the foundation for a student exchange with France. The students’ hard work and dedication resulted in a two-way exchange that will take place in the 2017-2018 school year. This exchange will be open to local students who are in Grades 10-12 as of September 2017 with priority given to students in grades 11/12.

While in France our students were graciously hosted by students of Lycée Blaise Pascal in Charbonnières-les-Bains, France. In the fall of 2017, we would like to return the favor and host 5 students from France in grades 11 and 12 for one month over the period of October 8th to November 4th.

We invite families with a child who will be in Grade 10-12 in the 2017-2018 school year to express their interest in this two-way exchange. Interested families must be willing to host a student from France for a two-week period in the fall. In return for hosting a student, your son or daughter may have the opportunity to study in France for a one month period that coincides with our March Break. The cost to the student includes airfare and necessary travel documents.

One of the goals of Vancouver Island West’s International Program is to not only attract paying international students to our school, but also to create partnerships with schools in other countries so GRSS students can embark on life enriching International exchanges.

Spots available for this exchange are limited, so please express your interest and commitment by attending an Information Night at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017, at Gold River Secondary School. If you can’t make the meeting please contact me by phone or email.

Sincerely,

Philip Parkes, Vice-Principal of the International Program
